A number of dogs have been seized from a rural Geelong property after a covert sting uncovered a disgusting level of alleged animal cruelty and illegal breeding offences.

Members of the RSPCA’s major investigations unit swooped on the home on Thursday after acting on a confidential tip-off from a member of the community.

RSPCA Victoria inspectorate leader Lisa Calleja said it was the second operation in less than a week where a warrant has been executed under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Inspectors found six dogs in “very poor” conditions after the probe into and alleged illegal puppy breeding operation.

“The welfare of these animals was very poor when we found them, and we are now caring for them while we investigate further,” Ms Calleja said.

“We are absolutely committed to ending the practice of illegal animal breeding, rearing, and selling in Victoria.

“No matter how complex an investigation may be or the time or resources required, we will continue to pursue all individuals who engage in this behaviour.”

It’s believed investigators found the golden retrievers in “unsanitary” and “unsafe conditions”, with all animals requiring medical attention

Charges have not yet been laid while investigations are ongoing.

RSPCA is the only non-government organisation in Victoria with the power to enforce the law, as such no police involvement was required.

“We will continue to identify, pursue and prosecute people who breach animal welfare laws in Victoria and whose actions cause harm or suffering to animals,” Ms Calleja said.
