Revealed: Unique container cafe with rooftop deck planned for Torquay beach
A prime plot in Torquay could become home to a unique shipping container cafe complete with rooftop deck and ocean views.
A new eatery on a plot of prime real estate is set to shake up the culinary scene of a Surf Coast town.
Plans for a unique container cafe along The Esplanade in Torquay are before Surf Coast Shire council.
The plans would see Greenbay, a 12m x 3.5m cafe based out of a shipping container, open on what was previously a vacant block.
The cafe would stand out, with its exterior designed to be painted a beach-inspired green.
A rooftop deck is included in the plans, allowing punters to enjoy sweeping views of the beach, with the facade also set to feature glass windows.
It would allow for views from inside, and while raining, according to planning application documents.
The site of the cafe would be at 44 The Esplanade, near the Torquay Play Park and metres from Taylor Park.
The front portion of the block would be used for outdoor dining, while the grounds would feature native and indigenous plants.
A new 90cm high white picket fence would be erected around the perimeter, with the existing boundary fence retained.
Four staff carparks on the property would be built using grasscrete, a reinforced cellular concrete grass paving where natural grass can grow.
