Reed Blackney, who dressed up as the character Anxiety from Inside Out 2, was the winner of the Addy’s Book Week costumes competition.
Reed, 7, said she chose the character from the Pixar movie, which also has a book counterpart, because she also experienced anxiety.
“I got to choose what to go as and mum helped make the costume,” she said.
“The headband was pipe cleaners and feathers and my friend’s mum made an iron sticker for Anxiety’s face on my T-shirt.
“My hair was crimped to be crazy like Anxiety’s hair.”
Reed said she really liked reading, but it depended on the book.
“My favourite part of Book Week is you can dress up as whatever you want and you don’t have to wear the normal school clothes,” she said.
“I had a lot of fun dressing up and we had a Book Week parade.
“We did a book swap (students brought in preloved books to school and everyone went home on Friday with a new book) so I go a new book about horses.”
Reed said she loved the movie and book of Inside Out 2.
”I like when Riley (the main character) goes to high school camp and makes new friends and she plays hockey,” she said.
“Anxiety goes nuts around the control table, which is like what anxiety does and everything goes crazy.”
More than 230 votes were cast for the many creative costumes worn for Book Week across Geelong.
