Rebels bikies have been arrested as part of a major police sting aimed at curbing crime across the Geelong region.

Rebels bikies have been arrested as part of a major police sting aimed at curbing crime across the Geelong region.

Police raided homes across Geelong, Lara, Corio and Norlane last week where they made 40 arrests and issued 129 charges.

Officers said they targeted members of the local Rebels Outlaw Motorcycle Club during the operation and conducted 53 firearm prohibition orders searches, nine drug warrants, and five search warrants from February 6-10.

Police said they seized:

– 15g of methylamphetamine, with an estimated worth of $5250

– 20g of cannabis with an estimated worth of $500

– 2g heroin with an estimated worth of $700

- 1000 Xanax tablets, with an estimated worth of $15,000

– 2g of MDMA with an estimated worth of $400; and

– 100ml of 1,4 Butanediol with an estimated worth of $2000

Police executed search warrants at a Lara property where they seized an imitation firearm, ammunition, steroids and allegedly stolen number plates.

Two members of the Rebels were arrested on February 7 in relation to an alleged serious assault outside an adult entertainment venue in Geelong on December 16.

A 33-year-old Lara man was charged with assault resulting in serious injury, possessing an imitation firearm, handling stolen goods, and possessing steroids.

He was bailed to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court on May 8.

Police also arrested a 28-year-old man after conducting a FPO search at his address in Lara. The man was interviewed and released pending further inquiries regarding serious assault.

On February 6, police executed a drug warrant at a Geelong home where they allegedly found 5g of methylamphetamine and 1,4 Butanediol.

A 35-year-old woman was arrested and charged with trafficking methylamphetamine, possessing methylamphetamine and cannabis, possessing proceeds of crime and handling stolen goods.

The woman was remanded to appear at the Geelong Magistrates Court on March 6.

Police conducted a firearms search at a Norlane property and arrested three people.

A 48-year-old man is expected to be charged with possessing a prohibited weapon, a 38-year-old man was charged with possessing an imitation firearm and a 26-year-old woman was charged with theft, handling stolen goods and assaulting police. She was remanded to appear at Geelong Magistrates Court.

As part of the operation, members from the state highway patrol also targeted serious and organised crime entities on Geelong roads.

This led to four vehicles being impounded, four people found driving on a suspended licence, one drug driver detection, two defect notices being issued and one offender processed for evading police.

Geelong Crime Investigation Unit Detective Senior Sergeant Mark Guthrie said police would “continue to come down hard on people who think they can get away with criminal activity”.

“The safety of the community is our number one priority and make no mistake – we will continue to come down hard on people who think they can get away with criminal activity, including drug trafficking or illegally possessing a firearm,” he said.
