Midland Highway crash leaves two in hospital, one dead

Police probing a fatal crash at a notorious Meredith intersection are appealing for information as the family of a 29-year-old woman grapple with her death.

Police are calling for information or footage of a fatal crash at Meredith on Tuesday morning which claimed the life of a 29-year-old woman.

Victoria Police spokeswoman Megan Stefanec said the woman from Gisborne was a passenger in a white Suzuki Ignis being driven on the the Midland Highway, north of Geelong, about 6am when a silver Holden Commodore ran into the back of the Suzuki.

The Suzuki, driven by a 32-year-old Gisborne man, then collided with a Toyota Hilux that was travelling along McLeod St which joins the Midland Hwy.

“The driver of the Commodore, a 24-year-old Bonshaw man, was hospitalised with non-life-threatening injuries and was later interviewed by detectives and released pending further enquiries,” Sergeant Stefanec said.

“The driver of the Suzuki, a 32-year-old Gisborne man was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

“The driver of the Hilux, a 34-year-old Barwon Heads man, and his passenger, a 34-year-old Lethbridge man, were assessed at the scene and were uninjured.”

Major collision investigation unit detectives continue to probe the circumstances surrounding the collision.

An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said two people were hospitalised following the crash.

“Paramedics assessed a number of people at the scene,” the spokeswoman said.

“A man believed to be in his 30s has been taken to Ballarat Hospital with minor upper body injuries in a stable condition.

“Another person has been taken to Geelong Hospital, also with minor injuries in a stable condition.”
