Investigation launched after toddler burned at Belmont childcare centre

An investigation has been launched after a toddler sustained burns in an incident at a Belmont childcare centre.

The circumstances which led to a young child being burned at a Belmont childcare centre are under investigation.

It’s understood a toddler suffered hot water burns on Monday afternoon while at the centre and was taken to hospital for treatment.

An Ambulance Victoria spokesman said: “A toddler suffered burns to his upper body and was taken to Geelong Hospital in a stable condition.”

A Department of Education spokesman confirmed the incident was under investigation.

“The department’s early childhood regulator is aware of an incident involving a child at a Belmont childcare centre,” the spokesman said.

“As the incident is under investigation, we are unable to comment further.”

The name of the childcare centre has not been released.

It’s understood the investigation, to be conducted by the Quality Assessment and Regulation Division of the education department, will determine whether any aspects of the National Law or National Regulations have been breached by the approved provider and the service.

It’s also understood further action will be considered once the investigation is complete.
