A major retail chain will move into a well-known building in South Geelong.
Consumer electronics and white goods retailers the Good Guys will be moving from its current location on Fyans St, to the old De Grandi’s building on the corner of Moorabool and Forster streets.
The Good Guys, which has been in their current digs since 2001, has been advertising its moving store sales across Geelong over the last week, in an attempt to move stock before relocating.
It’s understood the business will be making its move within the next six weeks.
The company was tight lipped as to the motives of the relocation.
Much-loved local sports store De Grandi’s Intersport will have its last day of trade on July 10.
Owner Damian De Grandi said last month he hadn’t planned on vacating the well-positioned Moorabool St building, across the road from Kardinia Park.
“A local investor happened to knock on the door and make us an offer,” Mr De Grandi said.
“The only thing that gave us any concern was the one condition attached that we had to be out of the building completely by July 10.
“We accepted the offer based on the fact a few of us are ready for retirement, and you just don’t know whether an offer like that’s going to come along.
“It took a lot of soul searching, it was a gut wrenching decision.”
De Grandi’s has been in the building since 1992, first branded as Play Well.
After a few name changes, it became one of the first Intersport stores in the country in 2014.
The popular cycling business attached to De Grandi’s will move back to Mercer St, just meters away from where it first opened its doors in 1929.
