Bupa Dental patient injured, building damaged after car mounts footpath

A Portarlington woman arrested over a horrific collision in Belmont that left a man with serious injuries had been drink-driving.
A Victoria Police spokesman confirmed the 45-year-old woman, who remains under police guard in hospital, had returned a positive preliminary breath test following the crash on High St on Friday.
She is yet to be interviewed by police.
A 54-year-old Ocean Grove man was flown to the Royal Melbourne Hospital where he remains in a stable condition on Saturday.
Police will allege an SUV mounted the footpath and crashed into a the Bupa Dental health facility located on one of Geelong’s busiest streets.
The white Toyota went through a window and doorway, entered the building and hit a man standing at the reception desk.
The facility has been boarded up and closed in the wake of the accident.
A Bupa patient was one of those injured, with the other being a pedestrian.
The driver was not seriously injured but was taken to hospital as a precaution.
The incident, on the corner of High St and Roslyn Rd in Belmont, caused traffic chaos on what is a busy intersection at the best of times.
An Ambulance Victoria spokeswoman said a man in his 50s was flown to Melbourne in a serious but stable condition.
An air ambulance landed on a field at the nearby Oberon Primary School just after 11am.
Firefighters ensured the scene was safe and police could be seen directing traffic more than an hour after the crash.
A Bupa spokesman said the company's “thoughts are with the injured patient, our people at the practice and anyone affected by this unfortunate incident”.
“We are doing what we can to support them while co-operating with emergency services on the scene,” he said.

It’s the second time in less than 18 months that a car has crashed into a High St building.
In February last year, a small hatchback came to a halt when it hit the Pharmacy 4 Less outlet on the corner of High and Regent streets.
In 2018, a driver was lucky to escape unscathed when their car ploughed into a garden bed directly in front of the Australia Post outlet that is diagonally opposite Bupa Dental.
