Geelong’s active Covid cases by postcode revealed on map

New data reveals which Geelong postcodes have the most active Covid cases, while a ‘vaccination roadshow’ targets low booster rates. SEE THE MAP

The local public health unit is targeting areas with lower booster rates through a vaccination roadshow.

Barwon South West public health unit director Eugene Athan said as of Tuesday, there were 11 Covid patients in Geelong hospital, including both active and cleared cases.

“There are no Covid patients in ICU,” he said.

“This is good news, despite increasing case numbers in the region.

“We are pleased with how our community is coming forward for boosters.”

As of Sunday, 73.5 per cent of people aged 16 and over in the Barwon South West region had received their booster.

“However we still have significant numbers of eligible people across the region who need to come forward and have their booster.”

The public health unit has identified some postcodes across the region that have lower booster rates compared with the overallregion, Prof Athan said.

“Our outreach vaccination team have a regional vaccination roadshow in progress, with postcodes with low booster rates includedin these plans,” he said.

“This schedule includes a pop-up clinic this weekend at St Francis Primary School in Corio.

“Our outreach team are collaborating with our rural health service partners to ensure small regional and coastal towns havepop-up clinics included in the roadshow calendar.”

Of Victorian local government areas Greater Geelong had the second highest number of active cases listed on Tuesday, at 2557,behind Casey at 2968.

Health department data revealed postcodes with the highest number of active cases locally included 3216, covering Belmont,Grovedale, Highton, Marshall, Wandana Heights and Waurn Ponds, with 589; 3217, including Armstrong Creek, Mount Duneed, Freshwater Creek, Charlemont, with 300; and 3228, encompassing Bellbrae, Bells Beach, Jan Juc and Torquay, with 288.

On Tuesday, 471 new cases were reported for Greater Geelong, 85 for the Surf Coast, 23 for Colac-Otway, 44 for Golden Plainsand nine for the Borough of Queenscliffe.

Victoria recorded 10,916 new cases and five deaths.
