INVESTIGATIONS into a fatal house fire in the Huon Valley last week have to date identified no suspicious circumstances, police say.

A body was found inside the ruins of a Geeveston home in the early hours of Wednesday morning last week after emergency services responded to the blaze just after midnight.

The home on Fourfoot Rd was completely destroyed in the fire.

Police last week said the deceased person was found in the bedroom of the burnt-out property, and it was believed the person was the 63-year-old male resident.

A Tasmania Police spokeswoman today said investigations into the fire have been continuing.

“At this stage, formal identification of the deceased has not occurred and police await the results of DNA testing to confirm identity,’’ she said.

“Investigations to date indicate there is no evidence of suspicious circumstances, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.”

Neighbours last week spoke of their shock and sadness at the death.
