Woman, 30, allegedly dragged from car and assaulted by group of children in suburban Freshwater street
Police have charged four children aged between 12 and 16 over an attack in the early hours of Christmas Eve in suburban Freshwater, where a group of children allegedly assaulted and threatened to kill a 30-year-old woman.

Two 12-year-old girls are among a group of four youths charged over an alleged armed robbery and assault of a 30-year-old woman at Freshwater on December 24.
A police spokeswoman said the woman was sitting in her parked vehicle on Canopy Close around 1am when the group of teens approached her vehicle and allegedly forcibly removed her from the drivers seat.
One offender allegedly produced a knife and threatened the woman.
It is alleged the teens attempted to start the woman’s car but were unsuccessful, and fled the scene after stealing her handbag, keys, and mobile phone.
The woman was treated at the scene for bruising and swelling.
The dog squad were called in and managed to locate the woman’s handbag, said the spokeswoman.
Following investigations, officers identified and charged a number of children who were allegedly involved.
A 16-year-old Edmonton boy appeared in Cairns Children’s Court last week, charged with armed robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, stealing and two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle related to other incidents.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Stewart Clyde-Smith opposed bail, describing the alleged incident as “extremely serious”.
“The offence involved a 30-year-old female who was violently assaulted by a group of young people where they were armed and they tried to take her car,” Sergeant Clyde-Smith said.
“There was significant offending against this person.”
Acting Magistrate Raimund Heggie said the boy was an unacceptable risk for bail and remanded him in custody to appear for mention in the Cairns Children’s Court on January 16.
Two 12-year-old Cairns girls were charged with armed robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and common assault.
They were also refused bail and are scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s court on January 9.
A 15-year-old Manunda girl was charged with armed robbery in company, unlawful use of a motor vehicle and possession of stolen property.
She was refused bail and is scheduled to appear in the Cairns Children’s Court on January 14.
Police said investigations were ongoing into the matter.
