“We celebrate the learning journey.

TAS Principal Paul Sjogren said the school is blessed to have outstanding staff who go above and beyond.

“In saying that, it is rewarding to see their hard work evident in the latest results,’ Mr Sjogren said.

“We don’t focus on preparing for the test in isolation but rather our staff and students work hard all year around to be the best they can be.

“NAPLAN is a measure of academic performance at a particular point in time.

“However, it does provide some useful data that allows us to improve our teaching and learning practices.

“At TAS, we use this data to focus in depth on the needs for improved learning between two testing points: for example, Year 3- Year 5. Be that curriculum, pedagogy, resources, at both a cohort and individual level.”

Cairns School of Distance Education in Manunda was the second best for the region with an average score of 595.8, while St Monica’s College in Cairns was the third best with an average score of 592.2.

To determine how each school performed in 2023, the scores for all five test subjects for the student cohort (Yr 5 or Yr 9) were combined and the average found.

Special schools, schools with fewer than 20 students enrolled, and schools that did not report any results for NAPLAN subjects were excluded from the analysis.

The figures were independently compiled from the Federal Government’s MySchool website.
