Thousands are without power this morning after a car accident has taken out a power pole leaving power lines strewn across a road and a ute laying on its roof.
Emergency crews were called to Yorkeys Knob road at 6.08am this morning after reports of a major single car accident.
A Queensland Fire Department spokesman said that they arrived at the scene at 6.20 where they found a white ute had left the road, hit a power pole and rolled onto its roof.
“We have a single vehicle rollover, we haven’t had to rescue anyone out of the vehicle as they have been able to get themselves out but obviously the road is closed with power lines down,” he said.
A Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said they have transported a single male patient in a stable condition to Cairns hospital.
Queensland Police advised that road closures are in place on Yorkeys Knob Road near the Mobil service station with access to Yorkeys Knob via Dunne Road.
The accident has left major power outages in the Northern Beaches affecting over 3000 customers across Barron, Caravonica, Holloways Beach, Kamerunga, Smithfield, Trinity Park, and Yorkeys Knob.
There is no estimated repair time as of the time of reporting.
