The Queensland Government wants families to know they’re welcome in the Sunshine State and is offering free events connecting parents and kids with public services.

Premier David Crisafulli attended the Cairns G’day Little Queenslanders event at the Esplanade on Sunday where families enjoyed live entertainment and activities, food trucks, but also discovered essential government services to learn what’s available to support them.

“It’s our way of saying to people, thank you for choosing Queensland,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“Today is about is making sure that people can feel welcomed and valued (in the state).”

Barron River MP Bree James said she was blown away by the number of public support services available for families.

“Parenting is one of the hardest things that you’ll do, especially in Far North Queensland,” she said.

“A lot of families come here from other regions, they may not have the family support networks around them.”

Mulgrave MP Terry James dubbed his southern growth area as “nappy valley.”

“I’ve probably got the most little Queenslanders, you can refer to it as nappy valley,” he said.

“Particularly in the Mount Peter area where we’ve just declared a (Priority Development Area).”

Cairns was the fourth event in the state, with more expected in 2026.
