Seven-month-old Aussie Shepherd, Ragnar, has won the hearts of Cairns Post voters, who have crowned him FNQ’s cutest dog for 2024.
Owner Derek Williams said he knew Ragnar was a handsome boy, but didn’t expect him to win.
“I nominated him because he’s a good looking dog. I’m surprised and thankful he won. It was a bit of a shock to find out,” Mr Williams said.
Mr Williams said Ragnar loved to go for long walks on the beach and a have good game of tug of war.
“His got that big pup energy being a herding breed. He can be a bit of a handful, but we’re working on him. We live at Trinity Park so he gets regular trips to the beach,” he said.
“He loves to play tug of war, chasing the ball and playing with other dogs. When he sees them, it’s like we don’t exist anymore. He also loves going to Goomboora for a swim.”
Ragnar joins a family of Norse-named pups.
“He’s named after Ragnar Lodbrok from the Viking’s TV show. My family has a trend of naming dogs after Norse mythology,” he said.
“I used to have a rottweiler named Thor, my dad’s got a staffy named Loki and my brother’s got a husky named Odin.”
Runners up included Pumpkin, Ringo, Preacher and Arlo
Ragnar’s win follow’s two year old Tia the Chihuahua and Frankie the Daschund who were voted FNQ’s cutest dogs for 2023 and 2022, respectively.
