CAIRNS businesswoman Julieanne Steer has been discharged of two counts of fraud after police decided to drop the matters, which were due to go to trial on Monday.

In the Cairns Magistrates Court on Friday, lawyer Richard Whitla said the matters “have now been resolved”.

“That’s resolved in line with a submission I sent back in October last year so my friend is in a position to discontinue those charges today, both of them, and of course those trial dates are to be vacated,” Mr Whitla said.

Ms Steer was arrested and charged in October 2021, with police at the time alleging she had fraudulently manipulated documentation to apply for a grant in both April 2017 and November 2019.

The police prosecutor offered no evidence of each charge of fraud, and Ms Steer was discharged by Magistrate Susan Warrington.
