LAWYERS for a Cairns businesswoman facing two charges of fraud are awaiting the outcome of a submission made to police.
Julianne Steer, 46, was arrested and charged in October after a fraud investigation involving the Department of Employment, Small Business and Training.
Police are alleging Ms Steer fraudulently manipulated documentation to apply for a grant in both April 2017 and November 2019.
The matter returned to court on Wednesday afternoon, where Ms Steer’s solicitor Thomas Feeney said his client was on bail and her appearance had been excused.
Mr Feeney said he had sent a submission regarding the charges to the police prosecutor’s office on October 29.
“I understand they’re still considering that submission. I’m in my friend’s hands,” he said.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Lisa Buchanan said she had received the submission and had forwarded it on to the Commonwealth for a response.
“They’re the complainant in these matters,” Sgt Buchanan said.
Sgt Buchanan said she was seeking an adjournment to December 15.
“Hopefully we’ll have a response by then and the matter will resolve,” Sgt Buchanan said.
The matter was adjourned to then and Ms Steer’s bail was enlarged.
