A mystery animal that left a bizarre double-tailed track in the sand at Wonga Beach has presented a unique challenge for wildlife experts.
Celebrated filmmaker Ben Cropp has set up a trail cam in his front yard to capture images of a very “weird” creature that crawled out of the sea and across the beach before digging up his front lawn.
“The tracks don’t fit any animal we know,” he said.
“Basically, there’s a track that comes up from the water across the beach right along the foreshore right up to my land and digs a whole lot of holes.
“I followed the track and it went through the bush and back into the water.
“We are of the conclusion that there is no known animal that does this.
“It’s like a crocodile dragging two tails and then it digs a whole lot of holes like a pig.
“It’s weird, it’s totally unexplained.”
Mr Cropp said he brought in another Wonga Beach local, in independent tropical coastal fisheries specialist, David Cook, who was also left scratching his head by the diggings and tracks.
“There is nothing in nature that can make these tracks, it has to be something that is dragging something,” he said.
“Let’s face it and be rational, it has to be a pig or it’s someone that wanted to play a trick on Ben but I don’t think it’s a human hoax.
“I don’t believe in bunyips, I’m a Scotsman and I don’t believe in the Loch Ness monster.
“But it’s totally and utterly extraordinary and it’s totally unnatural.”
The fisheries expert said he set up a motion activated trail cam on Sunday and he was now excited to download video files to see if the identity of the creature making the tracks could be revealed.
