A senior dog with a heart of gold has won over the hearts of Cairns Post readers after being voted Far North Queensland’s cutest.
At nine years old, Cavalier King Charles spaniel Rosie, has been voted FNQ’s cutest dog of 2025.
Owner Renee Campbell said she was shocked and excited to learn Rosie had been named top dog.
“My daughter is so pleased. There were lot of cute puppies in there and we were checking them all, but we should’ve had faith (in Rosie),” Ms Campbell said.
“She is (a good girl) and she has beautiful personality to go with it … we call her our therapy dog, she sits and listens.”
At nine years old, Rosie enjoys going for walks, attention from people, playing with children and laying around the house.
A true-blue family dog, Rosie was a gift from Ms Campbell’s sister after she moved with her family to Brisbane five years ago.
“My sister and her family had to go to Brisbane and were living in a unit so they weren’t able to take Rosie with them,” she said.
“We used to look after Rosie whenever they went away and my daughter Ruby got very attached, so they gifted her to us, and she’s been a wonderful addition to the family.”
Ms Campbell said her brother-in-law in Brisbane was faithfully voting for Rosie every day.
“My brother-in-law, Rosie’s original dad was voting for her every single day as well, even from Brisbane so he was the first person I called to tell the news,” she said.
“He was like, oh my God, he was so surprised – I said I was just as surprised as you are.”
Ms Campbell also entered her brother’s dog Cooper into the competition, with the family engaging in friendly rivalry to see who would be named top dog.
“Funnily enough I was waiting for Rosie and Cooper, (he’s) my mum and brothers dog, so I entered him on their behalf, but he’s Rosie’s cousin,” she said.
“We had a little bit of a competition between (them) and I just rang mum to break the news that Rosie had won and she was like, aww we still know who the cutest is.”
Rosie joins previous winners Australian Shepherd, Ragnar, obedience and agility champion Chihuahua, Tia and Dachshund, Frankie as FNQ’s cutest dog titleholders.
