A man has finally been discharged from care after spending two months in three separate hospitals after being discovered unconscious and bleeding in a Cairns nightclub’s toilet.

A man who suffered a serious head injury in a Gilligan’s nightclub bathroom has finally departed hospital after two months of treatment across three cities.

The 38-year-old man fell and struck his head in a toilet cubicle in the early hours of Sunday, August 28; however, he wasn’t discovered until the nightclub’s closure, about 3am. Paramedics quickly responded to reports of his injury and transported him in a serious condition to Cairns Base Hospital.

He was transported to Townsville Hospital for further treatment and remained in a critical but stable condition for several weeks.

He was then transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane on October 6.

He survived the ordeal and was finally discharged from care earlier this week.

Speaking to the Cairns Post in September, Gilligan’s nightclub general manager Ashley Graetz confirmed he was aware of the incident but said irresponsible service of alcohol did not contribute to the man’s injuries.

“That’s all been dealt with OLGR and local authorities,” Mr Graetz said.

“Gilligan’s has done everything correctly in that situation.”

A spokeswoman for the Office of Liquor and Gaming Regulation said in September, however, the nightclub was the subject of investigations.

Those investigations by the OLGR are still ongoing, the spokeswoman said.
