A short film festival will return to Cairns this weekend and will even showcase some talent from the region.
Cairns commercial film director Rhys Day will share his movie Strange Country which was co-produced by cinematographer Tyson Perkins on Saturday at Flickerfest.
“It’s a story about the unfortunate souls that get too greedy and are led to an ancient place that essentially destroys them because of their greed,” Mr Day said.
“I grew up in a remote rainforest town near Cairns.
“What we’ve done here is, it’s an abstract view from my upbringing in the north.
“I’ve tried to frame the environment as a living organism that’s connected and communicates with the ancient blood lines of Australia.”
Mr Day said the film was about respecting the world around us.
Other films to play this week will be Me, Before and After starring Yael Stone from Orange is the New Black and Stonefish featuring Queensland actor George Pullar from A Place to Call Home.
Flickerfest will run over two nights. It will be held at Cairns Botanical Gardens on Saturday September 24 and Saturday, October 1, at 7.30pm.
Next week, the Shorts Laugh Comedy program will feature films that will be sure to give people a laugh.
A black comedy will be shown called Shark starring Rose Byrne, while a UK short Don Vs Lightning featuring Peter Mullan will also play.
