A highly-regarded Cairns arborist killed in a tree lopping accident at Clifton Beach has been remembered as a kind and generous man by a heartbroken Cairns alternative health community.
On Tuesday morning 63-year-old Terry Stead was lopping branches of a tree at Satellite Street when he fell from what emergency services described as a significant height.
Despite the efforts of paramedics the Freshwater local died at the scene.
Long-time friend Aron Bradshaw first met Mr Stead at his Lake Street juice bar when the late arborist went past to gift a fermented product he made called noni juice.
“He had a noni tree and would make the ferment, he befriended everyone and he was very giving, he was one of the most generous people we know,” he said.
“He was really into his alternate health and he converted his saltwater pool to a pool that filters water though copper to make the pool healing.”
Mr Stead, who owned Trims NQ lopping business, was known for his tree climbing skills and a hands-on approach to tree work.
“I remember working with him, he was healthy and fit and that he would push in and do the job, he was very robust,” Mr Bradshaw said.
Friends, family and the broader arborist community have shared touching tributes for a man with a big heart and curious mind, known for his fun-loving larger than life personality.
Former partner Tracey Stead said she was heartbroken by the loss.
“Our hearts ache with longing to have you back in our Earth realm, we are completely heartbroken,” she posted on social media.
“We will post his celebration of his sacred life soon.
“There are no words (and) we are so grateful for everyone checking in and sending love.”
Ms Stead was not up to talking on Thursday but indicated she was completely devastated, heartbroken and in deep shock when contacted.
It’s understood the death will be investigated by the Workplace Health and Safety Queensland and police are assisting with their investigations.
Police stated officers will prepare a report for the coroner following what is considered to be a non-suspicious incident.
