Be prepared to be totally thrilled at Dancescapes The June Vale Dancers production at Cairns Performing Arts Centre on Saturday.
“We are taking the audience through a haunted house, through children who discover a haunted house on their Halloween run,” June Vale, principal of Dancescapes, said.
“There are lots of characters who meet them – vampires, ghouls, ghosts and some pretty spooky others.”
Dancescapes has entertained audiences in Cairns since 2001 with themed recitals every year. This year’s show, Spooked, the Haunted House, came to life early July and will showcase a mix of acrobatic, tap and contemporary styles of dance.
“There are 170 children between the ages of three-18 years who will be performing,” Ms Vale said.
“We’re expecting about 1200 attendees, which in these times is simply amazing. All the props have been made by mums and there’s wonderful choreography by my daughter Kimberly Vale.
“She’s been doing all the choreography since 2012 and brings it to an amazing level of creativity and technique.”
Hailing from Melbourne, it was a cruise ship romance that brought Ms Vale to Cairns. She taught her first class at the Redlynch Community Hall nearly 30 years ago, with about seven students.
Today, she leads the Dancescapes at a boutique studio on Mulgrave Road.
The Spooked the Haunted House performance will have two shows including a 1pm matinee show and 7pm session.
Tickets are $49.10.
