A cyclist has died following a fatal traffic crash on the Bruce Highway last night.

Emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle and pedestrian crash at Midgenoo, 130km south of Cairns at 7.30pm.

Paramedics assessed three patients on the scene.

One male suffered critical injuries and was declared dead at the scene.

The 17-year-old female driver and 16-year-old male passenger were not injured in the crash.

Police investigations indicate the SUV was travelling northbound along the Bruce Highway between Feluga Rd and Midgenoo Rd before it crashed with the southbound cyclist.

The Forensic Crash Unit is investigating the circumstances of the crash and is appealing to anyone with information or dashcam/CCTV, particularly of the cyclist in the hours before the incident, to come forward.

The incident is the second recorded vehicle and pedestrian crash in recent weeks.

Earlier this month, it was reported a Tully man was hit by a car at Midgenoo before being transported to Townsville hospital where he remains in a critical but stable condition.
