A frustrated Cairns North resident posted a video clip on social media showing a thief breaking into his patio and stealing some of his laundry, which included all of his underwear.
According to his post, this was the fourth time in the last few months that their household had been victim to “this type of robbery”.
A Queensland Police Service spokeswoman confirmed reports of theft from a unit complex on Upward Street at Cairns North on the morning of January 18.
Police said initial investigations indicate clothing items were taken from a balcony.
CCTV footage uploaded by the resident showed a young man in athletic wear and a baseball hat entering the ground floor apartment through a window into the patio where the clothes were drying, picking three to four clothing items off the airer and making away with a hanger full of underwear.
The video suggested that the nicking of knickers happened at around 3am Wednesday morning.
The resident was shocked that the “low life scum bag” would use someone else’s underwear and has issued a call out on social media to identify the thief.
His post was met with suggestions to put itching powder on the clothes or to purposefully put soiled clothes on the line, with one Westcourt resident reporting a similar “trespassing and poaching of clothes” incident happened to them last year.
Police have asked anyone with information relating to this incident to contact police with reference number, QP2300099224.
