Boy, 14, in stable condition after alleged stolen car crash at Edmonton in Cairns

A 14-year-old boy who was one of the passengers of an alleged stolen car that crashed into a tree was flown to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition. Find out how he’s doing.

A teenage boy who was the passenger of an alleged stolen car that crashed into a tree has improved condition after eight days.

The boy, 14, had been fighting for his life since Monday, September 5 after he was flown to Townsville Hospital in a critical condition.

A Townsville Hospital spokesman confirmed on Tuesday morning he was now in a stable condition for the first time since the accident.

A 13-year-old Kuranda girl was allegedly live-streaming the incident when she crashed in the vicinity of Farmer and Barney Streets at Edmonton about 5.25pm.

Police allege the girl drove down the windy Kuranda Range road before crashing.

They were accompanied by a 17-year-old boy.

The girl was charged with one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing grievous bodily harm while excessively speeding, unlawful use of a motor vehicle, unlicensed driving and use of a mobile phone.

While the 17-year-old boy was charged with one count of unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

As of Monday, 55 cars had been stolen in September and 917 were taken this year.
