A FAR North man is fighting for life in Townsville Hospital after being critically injured in an alleged serious assault incident on the Cassowary Coast last night.

Police say just after 9pm, emergency services were called to a Euramo Rd address following reports a man had sustained serious injuries to his torso and head.

A 66-year-old man had critical injuries treated at the scene and was flown to Townsville Hospital.

A 44-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene before being taken by police to Innisfail watch house where he was charged with one count of acts intended to maim, disfigure/disable and one count of wounding.

He will appear in the Innisfail Magistrates Court on Wednesday.

Police have appealed for information relating to the incident which can be provided through the Policelink online reporting form.
