Suspected hit and run, Tully

LOVED ones are struggling to come to grips with the shock death of a kind-hearted young Tully man taken in his prime in a suspected hit-and-run on the Bruce Highway.

Police have issued a fresh call for witnesses to the mystery incident, understood to have happened on Thursday night before the body of Aden Lawlor was discovered by a farmer on Friday morning.

Country northern patrol group inspector Andrew Cowie said the 20-year-old was found shortly after 11am just north of the Tully turn off after potentially being struck while riding a pushbike.

“And as a result of that investigation, police are conducting forensic crash analysis to determine if there was another vehicle involved,” he said.

Insp Cowie said the critical witness window was from 10pm – midnight on Thursday night.

“We are very eager to identify if there’s any CCTV or in car camera footage of that location,” he said.

Two crowd-funding campaigns have been set up to help the family lay to rest a young man who has been described as “sweet and kind-hearted”.

Distraught sister Lacey Lawlor pleaded with motorists to come forward with information about the accident.

“Please find who did this to my brother,” she said.

“I miss you so, so much, you are my best friend. I need you here with me right now, I need to be hugging you. I don’t know what I’m meant to do now.

“Fly high spread those beautiful wings you have mate.”

Insp Cowie said police had not yet determined if multiple vehicles were involved in the death of the Tully farm worker.

“He had been out the night before and was riding home after having some drinks in town,” he said.

“We’re unable to confirm whether or not a second vehicle was definitely involved but we are conducting inquiries, so there is a possibility.

“We was found by the side of the road, resting up against a piece of concrete in the area.

“We’re not quite sure of the circumstance of how he’s ended up there at this stage.
