‘Brutal, macabre and bizarre’: Police reveal horror allegations as Nirmeen Noufl accused of murdering and ‘butchering’ husband

Police have revealed “brutal, macabre and bizarre” allegations surrounding the alleged murder of a missing husband whose remains were “dismembered” by his wife.

A woman is alleged to have murdered her husband, butchered his body using a power saw and hidden his remains in bins scattered across south west Sydney before she was arrested in a dramatic breakthrough.

Police allege Nirmeen Noufl murdered her 62-year-old husband Mamdouh who was reported missing from their Greenacre home, in Sydney’s southwest, in July last year.

The matter was initially investigated as a missing person before the NSW Police homicide unit took over, after Mamdouh’s disappearance was deemed “suspicious”.

It will be alleged in court that Ms Noufl killed her husband and cut up his body in order to hide the remains, police said on Saturday.

Homicide squad commander Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty described the allegations as “brutal, macabre and bizarre”.

“We will allege she butchered and dismembered his body, placed his body parts in plastic bags and then disposed of his remains in various rubbish bins in the residential and industrial areas of south west Sydney,” Superintendent Doherty said.

Mamdouh was reported missing by family friends in July last year and it was initially reported to police that he had travelled back to his native Egypt.

However when his family in Egypt said they could not locate, it sparked alarm.

“His family friends were concerned, they thought he was travelling overseas but couldn’t be reached,” Superintendent Doherty said.

“His family in Egypt could not locate him either.”

As well, police have alleged that Ms Noufl took control of his mobile phone and social media accounts as part of “ruse” to impersonate him in order to make out that he was still alive.

“That probably delayed some of the investigations,” Superintendent Doherty said.

Police say they do not know exactly how he was killed, but believe he was murdered in May, alleging that Ms Noufl was solely responsible.

They have not located any of his remains.

“And I doubt they will ever be located,” Superintendent Doherty said.

They have alleged his body was cut up using knives and a power saw, before their Juno Pde home was extensively cleaned and the floorboards ripped up.

In a major breakthrough, detectives on Thursday arrested Ms Noufl, 53, at a Bankstown Hospital, where she had checked herself in as a mental health inpatient, before she was charged with murder.

At the same time, police started searched the Greenacre home which she had shared with her husband for 10 years.

Ms Noufl appeared briefly in Bankstown Local Court on Friday and did not apply for bail.

She will reappear in court on December 11.
