The radical multimillion-dollar transformation of a building on Palmer Street has created an exciting new option for business travellers seeking up-market accommodation with cutting-edge technology, and fine dining.
Operating for over a decade, Sydney-based property developer Urbancom specialises in crafting luxury apartments throughout the Sydney metropolitan and mid north coast areas of New South Wales.
Early in 2023, Urbancom managing director George Daoud purchased the building at 79 Palmer St, which previously hosted Masala Indian Restaurant and Adventurers Backpackers Resort, before embarking on a large-scale upgrade where the total investment has exceeded $10m.
Opened just in time for pop star P!nk’s arrival in March, the 75-room Belmoral Corporate Suites bolsters Townsville’s accommodation availability while targeting the business and corporate traveller market.
“They come with the latest and greatest in technology. There’s smartphone access so if you make a booking or reservation online, you get sent a key to your phone (which) becomes your key to the hotel room,” Mr Daoud said.
“In addition to that, when we’re trying to cater for an adults only crowd in the hotel (because) our targeted market is predominantly the corporates … we’re trying to make it tailored for corporate clientele.
“You don’t have to worry about kids running through the corridors, and it’s just a different dynamic to most hotels.”
While they put the finishing touches on high-end Mediterranean restaurant Levanti, which was expected to open in June, Mr Daoud said their Levanti Cafe had begun serving breakfast, attracting a growing number of diners with the smell of their popular Campos Coffee.
“So far people have been impressed. We’re perfecting (Levanti’s) menu, we’re perfecting the food … I want every little detail to be perfect,” he said.
Already employing two dozen staff, he encouraged residents looking for work to bring their resumes in.
With a few other projects in the pipeline, including the 12-storey Infinity Townsville tower, just up the road next to the former transit centre, Mr Daoud was upbeat about the city’s future potential.
He praised the city as a great place to do business and beautiful place to live, where the locals were friendly, and tradies were “professional, diligent, and proficient”.
