"Do NOT break broccoli!'
A Melbourne shopper recently took to Reddit to share a sign erected at their local fruit shop which left them completely baffled.
"Do NOT break the broccoli," it reads, written in clear black marker.
"You will pay $1 extra for each you break if we find out."
Oof, them be some stern words there, my friends!

"Challenge accepted"
Unfortunately for the store, the sign was interpreted as a game rather than a stern warning.
"If we find out," one person laughed.
"Challenge accepted," wrote another.
"If they find out... challenge accepted... I only use broccoli stalk," another chuckled.

A selfish trend
Meanwhile, others said the trend of only buying the branches is one they've also had jack of.
"I once showed up to Coles and it was just stalks. So that was a bit shit. It seemed selfish to snap the brocs," someone shared.
"I dated a dude who would snap the stem off before paying. Genuinely embarrassing," another added.
And another agreed: "Break brocoooli? Not cool, bro."
