A DAY of weird weather in Tasmania had everything from baking sun, dry lightning storms and a sea mist crossing the North-West Coast.
Fog rolling in to Burnie did not deter surfers, swimmers or rowers from enjoying the beach on Tuesday with the temperature reaching a high of 20.3C.
The state’s highest temperature of 34C was recorded at Bushy Park.
The temperature in Hobart peaked at 27.5C and a high of 30.3C was recorded in Launceston.
Bureau of Meteorology supervising meteorologist Simon Lewis said one of the more unusual aspects of the weather was dry lightning.
“It is quite humid and that is leading to fairly unstable conditions including some lightning activity across the state … and that hasn’t come with too much rain. The highest rainfall total since 9am [on Tuesday] was 3.8mm at Waratah,” Mr Lewis said.
The bureau forecasts that the hot conditions will continue in Tasmania’s North and interior on Wednesday but will cool down in Hobart with a top of just 23C forecast.
Very high fire dangers are expected in the Midlands, Central North and North-West Coast with little rain expected in the coming days.
Rain is expected on Friday afternoon before hot conditions return next week.
