A yacht full of nudists have bared all on Sydney Harbour, leaving onlookers stunned and reaching for their phones to film the unusual scene.
It’s understood that the stark-naked partygoers, who were enjoying themselves with drinks in hand, were sailing on the harbour as part of an organised naked cruise earlier this week.
In the clip, more than a dozen people wearing only hats and sunglasses were seen dancing on the deck while smiling and waving at gawkers.
The fully clothed captain even joined in on the fun by honking his horn at passers-by, but remained fully clothed.
“Look at those two,” someone filming the boat says, referring to two naked women parading around the mast of the ship.
In NSW, the maximum penalty for obscene exposure in a public place is six months in jail, and offenders may also face a community service order or a fine.
However, public nudity is not prohibited if the conduct occurs at a “clothing optional” beach.
NSW has five official beaches that are “designated for the purpose of nude bathing”: Lady Bay (Lady Jane) Beach, Cobblers Beach, Obelisk Beach, Werrong Beach, and Samurai Beach.
Commenters online weighed in on the video, with some supporting the free spirits.
“It’s fantastic to see people living and enjoying their lives the way God intended, naked and unashamed,” said one.
“Why not – if that’s what floats their boat?” another joked.
“How gorgeous,” said someone else.
However, others said they were repulsed.
“Disgusting, but that’s Aussies!” remarked one.
“What’s wrong with them?” someone else asked.
“Images that cannot be unseen,” another commented.
The naked cruise has been mistakenly identified online by some who believed it was associated with the well-known Get Naked Australia nude cruises, which have been pioneering the nudity cruise space for years.
However, Brendan Jones, the founder of Get Naked, confirmed this was not the case.
“It’s a copycat,” Mr Jones told news.com.au.
“These guys are trying to run their own cruises, probably off the back of the success we’ve achieved or targeting an older demographic”.
“They are a group of regulars from Cobblers Beach,” he said, referring to the nudist beach in Mosman.
“I can’t vouch for their behaviour as I don’t know them. I just know they’re an older bunch than our typical demographic.
“We try to keep our cruises in the 20-40 age bracket.”
The first Get Naked cruise took place in 2017, and they have been running annually to help people embrace their bodies in all shapes and sizes while reducing the stigma around nudity.
“They’re getting quite popular. We organised two this summer, with 160 and 100 people, and we have two big ones planned for next year.
“We’re always respectful and within the boundaries of the law.
“We don’t sail nude – we take a boat to a legal nude beach and anchor for the day.”
