ICONIC Tasmanian destinations will feature in a new tourism campaign aimed at luring holiday-making Britons away from Europe and to Australia.

Federal Tourism Minister Simon Birmingham will launch the next leg of Tourism Australia’s UnDiscover Australia campaign — initially aimed at Asian tourists — in Launceston today.

Tasmanian gems featured in the campaign include Cradle Mountain, the Freycinet Peninsula and MONA.

“We already see more than 25,000 UK travellers head to Tasmania each year, injecting more than $30 million into the local economy, but we think there is huge potential to expand the region’s tourism appeal,” Senator Birmingham said.

“I’m looking forward to seeing a greater number of UK tourists explore more of Tasmania from MONA to the panoramic views of the Freycinet Peninsula and the numerous walking trails around Cradle Mountain.

“The more UK tourists we can lure to Tasmania the more cash they will splash in local businesses.”

The UnDiscover campaign aims to showcase Australian destinations outside usual tourist hot spots. It focuses on increasing visitation, promoting travel outside of peak periods and enticing tourists into regional areas.

Senator Birmingham will tonight attend the National Tourism Awards at Launceston’s Cataract Gorge.
