THE 2014 Tasmanian Tourism Awards program was launched yesterday, celebrating and fostering the state’s burgeoning industry.

The awards acknowledge Tasmania’s outstanding tourism businesses and form part of the prestigious Qantas Australian Tourism Awards program.

Tasmania continually punches above its weight in the national awards, last year collecting three gold awards and six the year before.

The launch signals the start of a four-month program where tourism operators prepare detailed submissions, before a site inspection.

Judging is in October, with winners announced at a gala event in November. Winners of each category then go on to represent the state in the national awards.

Tourism operators Rose Flynn and Antony Langdon hope to enter this year’s awards with their newly opened Montacute Boutique Bunkhouse at Battery Point, where they hosted yesterday’s launch.

The Mercury sponsors the People’s Choice Award category at the state awards.
