HOSPITALITY industry leaders will work with TasTAFE Drysdale in a bid to turn out more high-quality trainees.

Customer service standards and higher proportions of students completing qualifications were on the agenda, Tasmanian Hospitality Association general manager Steve Old said.

Mr Old said the association had been critical of TasTAFE in the past but the partnership would cement a growing, closer working relationship.

He said demand for Tasmanian services was growing and with that came high expectations from customers.

“By working together we aim to increase the quantity and quality of Tasmanian graduates and skilled hospitality professionals available to local business to ensure they can meet growing demand and expectations and continue to be sustainable and profitable businesses,” Mr Old said.

The THA would also promote TasTAFE to its members.

TasTAFE Drysdale and the Tasmanian Hospitality Association signed a partnership agreement yesterday at the Drysdale campus in Hobart.

“Highly skilled hospitality professionals are essential and TasTAFE Drysdale is committed to working with the THA to ensure businesses are able to attract, engage and retain skilled hospitality professionals,” TasTAFE divisional manager Maree Gerke said.

Education and Training Minister Jeremy Rockliff said it would have an enormous flow-on effect for the sector.
