VINEYARDS around the state will open their doors to the public this weekend for The Southern and Eastern Tasmanian Vineyards Open Weekend, complete with wine tastings, food and entertainment.
Littlewood Berry Farm might not be a vineyard but is sure to be a hot spot on the map over the weekend, catering for those who would like to stay put in one place, taste different types of wine and have their children nearby and entertained.
On the lawns at the farm in Richmond will be three vineyards who don’t have cellar doors — IQ Wine, Back Paddock Vineyard and Six Friends Vineyard — showcasing their wines alongside Richmond Wood Fired Pizza, the farm’s Strawberry Jam Gin and Liqeur, the Little Bean Coffee Van and activities for the under-aged.
IQ Wine is one of the vineyards who will be selling and providing tastings of its wine at the berry farm this weekend, showcasing its new sparkling wine as well as its classic Gewurztraminer. at the berry farm this weekend.
IQ Wine’s Emily Salmon said the event is designed to be family friendly.
“The space is set up with an actual picnic lawn area,” Ms Salmon said.
“People can bring picnics if they want to or they can come and enjoy the environment and try wines, and the children can pick strawberries while the parents are relaxing.
“For younger children there’s some play equipment but one of the bigger things will be a maze made out of straw bails.”
Ms Salmon said this will be the third year the family friendly event has taken place but they’ll this year be joined by Six Friends Paddock.
“Being in the Coal Valley we all know each other and we all like to support each other in what we’re doing. And when we don’t have cellar doors, this is a really good opportunity to do that,” she said.
There will be around 50 vineyards who will take part in this weekend’s Southern and Eastern Tasmanian Vineyards Open Weekend .
