Whisky Week to showcase all of Tassie’s top tipples

Despite its deceiving name, Tasmanian Whisky Week is the perfect winter event for fans of all spirits.

DESPITE its deceiving name, Tasmanian Whisky Week is the perfect winter event for fans of all spirits.

Top-quality spirits will be served at distilleries, bars, barns, stables, restaurants and hotels across the state from August 12 to 18.

Tasmanian Whisky and Spirits Association executive officer Emma Gilligan on Wednesday said there would be more distilleries participating in this year’s event than ever before.

“Tasmanian Whisky Week 2019 gives Tasmanians and visitors a unique opportunity to taste, sample and enjoy spirits from over 25 different Tasmanian distilleries including vodka, gin, liqueurs, whisky and even rum,” she said.

The program will include guided bus tours, meet the maker opportunities, a boat cruise on the River Derwent, an auction of rare and limited whiskies, as well more than 20 individual events.

Destination Southern Tasmania chief executive Alex Heroys said the whisky-inspired week was a celebration of the growth and success of local distilleries on the world stage.

“Whisky Week is increasing its statewide presence in the North and South of the island, and every year the program gets more creative, collaborative and exciting,” Mr Heroys said.

“One of the big program highlights is undoubtedly the Tasmanian Spirits Showcase, which brings together more than 20 Tasmanian craft distilleries for tastings, food, entertainment and education.”
