What’s not to love about fluffy, delicious, little pillows of potato goodness called gnocchi? Here are some of the best around town.

WHAT’S not to love about fluffy, pretty little pillows of potato goodness. Here are some of the best in Hobart.

Cultura Espresso Bar and Restaurant

Smiling staff, happy customers, great gnocchi and good vibes abound at this busy city restaurant. One of their most popular dishes is fluffy gnocchi with the slow-cooked beef and lamb shredded ragu ($24), which is also one of their six pasta sauces. Cultura also recently added a gluten-free gnocchi to their menu.

A Wine Bar in Bellerive

Chef Fabian Christoph formerly of Restaurant 373 and The Mill on Morrison, makes his famous gnocchi at his latest venture A Wine Bar in Bellerive. His pan-roasted goat’s cheese semolina gnocchi is served with salsa verde and eggplant relish ($9.50 for 3 pieces).

The wine bar/tapas concept is as good just for glass of wine after work, or a long lunch or dinner.

Paesano Pizza and Pasta

Paesano gnocchi is a long-perfected family recipe from the Molise region.

The owner’s Nonna made it for 16 years, and the tradition she learnt from her Mamma in Italy, continues. This dish is served with a bolognese or Napoletana sauce (takeaway entree $17, main $21 or eat-in entree $21, main $25). Or Paesano’s gnocchi can be served with any other sauce from the pasta menu for an extra $4.

Capital Antipasti-Pizze-Vino

The gnocchi served at this popular North Hobart restaurant is rated by many as “simply delicious”. One of their most popular dishes – the Gnocchi al funghi is served with wild mushrooms, spinach, cream, garlic, chicken, roasted walnuts and pesto oil ($28).The gnocchi which stars in this dish, features enough strength of flavour to carry the rich sauce.

Da Angelo Ristorante

The gnocchi featured at Da Angelo’s in Battery Point has been rated by many customers on TripAdvisor as “the best ever”. This house-made dish is described by the chef as “super light and fluffy but the texture is not too light, that it falls apart before you can get it into your mouth”. The gnocchi is available in two varieties Bianco, potato; and Spinaci, spinach and potato. ($19.50 each, served with a choice of any of the restaurant’s delicious sauces for an extra $3).
