WHETHER you’ve just knocked off work, are looking for a bite after a night out or just need somewhere to catch up after hours, these five hot spots for night owls are well worth checking out.

Raincheck Lounge

392 Elizabeth St, North Hobart

Open every day but Christmas, the popular cafe and bar has you sorted no matter what the time of day. The dinner menu stocks a range of starters, mains and sides. Try the hearty Japanese fried chicken burger with slaw ($16) or a serve of crinkle-cut chips with aioli for something lighter ($8).

Open: Sun-Tues 7am-6pm, Wed-Sat 7am-10pm

The Den

63 Salamanca Pl, Hobart

Paired with a classic cocktail or Tasmanian beer, the dishes at new Salamanca eatery and bar, The Den, are well worth considering for a tasty snack in the wee hours.

The menu ranges from jalapeno poppers filled with cheese ($14), three varieties of fries ($7-13) and a number of share plates, from bao to skewers and wings. ($14-24).

Opening hours: 12pm-12am Mon, Thurs; Friday-Sunday 11am-till late

Aloft

Pier One, Brooke St Pier, Hobart

This classy high-end eatery at the top of the Brooke St Pier complex divides its menu by size and is the perfect spot for a late-night dinner. Try a small dish of salt and pepper whitebait ($7), a medium lamb breast with tamarind nam prik and fried egg ($20), or the slow-roasted pork shoulder ramen ($34). Also available is a dessert and banquet menu.

Ti Ama

13 Castray Esp, Battery Point

Translating to the phrase “He loves you” in Italian, you will not be left wanting with the extensive bill of fare at Ti Ama. Many meals cater to vegetarian or vegan requirements, including the ricotta gnocchi ($26), kaffir lime panna cotta ($12) and all slow dough woodfired pizzas (starting from $22) can be prepared gluten-free on request.

Opening hours: Mon 6pm-10.30pm; Tues closed; Wed-Thu 6pm-10.30pm, Fri-Sat 6pm-12am, Sunday: 6pm-10.30pm

Ettie’s

100 Elizabeth St, Hobart

The dinner offerings at this elegant bistro include olives, oysters and salami among the starters, up to the more substantial roasted duck ravioli and broth ($20), red wine and radicchio risotto with walnuts and gorgonzola ($26) or 250g dry-aged porterhouse steak frites ($36). If you can’t choose straight from the menu, allow Ettie’s Choice to craft a multi-course meal for $65.
