FOR the purr-fect coffee, cuddle up with a kitty and a cuppa at The Hobart Cat Cafe in North Hobart when it opens.

Hobart couple Adam and Sarah Honeyman say we live in a city of cat lovers and the concept of combining furry friends with food and drinks, which is popular in Asia, would be a success.

The cafe opening in January will be a licensed eatery with a separate, sealed off cat room attached, housing about 10 adult cats.

“We’re proud to be the first ones in Tasmania doing this, it’s really exciting,” Mrs Honeyman said.

“I think people will really respond to it, it’s something fun and it’s there to make people happy.”

RSPCA Hobart centre manager Abby Laskey said many of the cats that will be residents at the cafe will come from RSPCA Tasmania and the rest will be from the Hobart Cat Centre.

“We will have some of our longer term residents and adult cats,” she said.

The cafe will have a terminal so customers can access the RSPCA adoptapet.com.au website and check out who’s available at the shelter.
