TASMANIAN distillers have come away from the Australian Gin Awards with a swag of medals.

Fourteen Tasmanian distilleries entered the inaugural Australian Gin Awards, announced on Thursday in Sydney.

Hunnington Distillery, from Kettering, won gold in the flavoured gin category with its Deadmans Point Tasmanian Sloe Gin.

Hellfire Bluff Distillery, based at Boomer Bay, near Dunalley, won gold with its Summer Gin and Darby-Norris Distillery, also bagged gold.

In total Tasmanian distilleries won three gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals.

Co-owner of Hunnington Distillery David Hunn said the success was “a real credit to the industry in Tasmania”.

“I think it is an amazing result,” he said.

“What is really impressive is the quality of Tasmanian products and the diversity of distillers and distilleries in our industry. We have small family-run businesses like ours through to big, new multimillion-dollar distilleries.”
