A new video series hopes to inspire Tasmanians to become a tourist in their own backyard.

Take on Tassie is an initiative of the Tourism Industry Council Tasmania, which sees Holly Bowden, of Smitten Merino and Epitome Hats, travelling across the state to uncover hidden gems, visit award-winning destinations, and meet some of the state’s industry champions.

“Obviously we’re a state based on tourism, so we’re encouraging Tasmanians to become the tourist to get out there and explore what we have to offer,” Ms Bowden said.

“I’m just blown away by how incredible these businesses are. I’ve travelled the world, and Tasmania is second to none.”

The first destination was the Huon Valley, where Ms Bowden went on a sailing adventure with Yukon Tours, stayed in a beautiful property with Essentially Tas, and had a bite at Willie Smith’s Apple Shed.

In her adventures across the state she also samples some fresh seafood at Bicheno’s Lobster Shack, experiences the longest zip line in Australia at Hollybank Wilderness Adventures, and stays at the stunning Prospect House.

“You don’t realise what’s out there, so you will be so pleasantly surprised and blown away like me,” Ms Bowden said.

With the state’s borders set to open on July 24, Ms Bowden hoped the series would also inspire mainlanders to pay the island state a visit.

The videos can be seen on the Take on Tassie Facebook page.
