TASMANIA’S craft beer revolution is gaining momentum with the state’s 21 craft breweries creating a collective voice through a newly formed association.
Moo Brew general manager and head brewer Dave Macgill said Tasmanian Independent Brewers Association has been formed to help the growing craft brewers industry.
Winston Brewing Company, the brainchild of Kris Miles and Caroline Kiehne at the Winston Alehouse in North Hobart, has taken a leap of faith in local consumption to invest in the market. The brewery, which has been more than year in the making, launches tomorrow with its first four beers.
Within the next six months another three breweries in Hobart will open.
“We will have five breweries within walking distance of each other,” Mr Miles said.
“The Winston Alehouse has been open for 2½ years and we have always planned to brew our own beers for the bar. It wasn’t an easy process – for example our brewery equipment supplier went bust which added seven months to the process,” Mr Miles said.
“Our aim is to produce fresh, small batch beers exclusively to tap at the bar.”
