TASMANIAN lovers of herbal teas need look no further than their home state for a relaxing bedtime brew.

The Taste section in Tuesday’s Mercury discusses the merits of a herbal tea as part of a bedtime routine.

In addition to a comfortable bed, guests at the MACq01 hotel on Hobart’s waterfront are treated to Tasmanian-made herbal teas to help relax after a day exploring the city.

MACq01 general manager Jake Smith said in-house guests had access to a range of traditional and herbal teas from the Tasmanian Tea Company.

“We do our best to support Tasmanian companies,” Mr Smith said.

Herbalist Kate Pandy, an adviser to one of the world’s leading tea companies, told Taste that some typical ingredients in herbal tea were relaxing rather than sleep-inducing.

“What you find in chamomile is the essential oil chamazulene, and that actually has a relaxing effect on the nervous system,” Ms Purdy said.
