Shorter days and milder weather are coming our way

The dog days of summer are a fading memory as Hobart looks forward to cooler conditions over the course of the week.

Italian greyhound Sago made the most of a mild day in Hobart yesterday, taking in the thrills of the waterfront at Sandy Bay with owners Todd Buttsworth and Meredith Calthorpe.

Eight days after the city sweltered through a top of 39C, Hobart constrained itself to 20C yesterday.

Monday’s public holiday will be mostly sunny in Hobart, with a top of 22C.

Tuesday and Wednesday will see top temperatures in the mid-teens before temperatures in the low to mid 20s return towards the end of the week. Little rain is forecast beyond some light showers on Tuesday and winds will remain light.

The milder weather conditions are a boon for firefighters dealing with the hot spots persisting from major bushfires.

No alerts were current on the Tasmania Fire Service website on Sunday.

And sunrise was at exactly 7am, a reminder that the days are indeed getting shorter as autumn takes hold.
