THE annual World’s Best 50 Restaurants award has been released with three Aussie restaurants named on the prestigious list.

In a change from previous years, the list which is actually made up of 100, announced the bottom half of the top 100 before the full list is unveiled in London on Monday.

Sepia in Sydney and Brae in Birregurra, Victoria debuted on this year’s list with Quay in Sydney remaining in the top 100.

Chef Dan Hunter of Brae said it was hard for Australian restaurants to make the list due to our isolation. Brae sits 130kms southwest of Melbourne in a rural Victorian farmhouse.

Quay took out 58th spot, up from 60th last year but down from 2013 when it came in at number 48. Sepia was named 84th and Brae took 87th place.

Sepia co-owner, Vicki Wild, told news.com.au it was an amazing achievement.

“We are just so very proud of what we have achieved and recognition like this just makes us want to continue to evolve and push forward,” she said.

Quay’s inclusion on the list comes ahead of the restaurant group’s opening of a new restaurant at the Bennelong site at the Sydney Opera House which will will include a casual restaurant on the uppper level, a signature Peter Gilmore dining experience on the lower leel and a chef’s table in the kitchen.

The list is compiled by 972 experts including chefs, restaurateurs and food journalists who judge on quality of food, service, atmosphere and price levels of restaurants they have dined at within the last 18 months. Restaurants cannot apply to be on the list.

The only Australian restaurant to make the top 50 last year was Attica in Melbourne that placed 32nd on the list and is thought to again appear on the list this year.

The full list will be released on 1 June.
