Residents warned of warm weather’s return

Residents are again being warned to brace for warm weather conditions, with another heatwave expected to cross the state early next week.

DERWENT Valley residents are again being warned to brace for warm weather conditions, with another heatwave expected to cross the state early next week.

After a mild top of 23C on Saturday, the region will on Sunday reach between 24C and 29C, with west to south-westerly winds in the middle of the day turning to south to south-easterly in the afternoon.

Daytime temperatures will then sit between 25C and 31C on Monday before soaring to 36C on Tuesday.

HEAT IS ON IN FIRE DANGER ZONES

Forecaster David Matthews said the very hot conditions could trigger fire warnings.

Mr Matthews said this week’s weather was well above the 21C average for January in Hobart.

“The warm conditions we’re seeing should see a fairly good weekend across the South of the state with not too much rainfall expected [5-8mm],” he said.

“It’s possible Hobart could see an early shower on Saturday morning, but nothing that is expected to set in.”

Hobart will reach 23C on Saturday, after a warm overnight low of 18C.

The Bureau of Meteorology has predicted temperatures will increase into next week, with Hobart expected to climb to a top of 24C on Sunday before reaching 27C on Monday and 30C on Tuesday.

Mr Mathews said temperatures could become cooler after Tuesday, with the bureau predicting Hobart to reach 25C on Wednesday and 23C a day later.
