Poll: Who has Tasmania’s best parmigiana?

It’s a tie at the top of our poll to decide who sells Tasmania’s best parmigiana, and voting closes in less than 24 hours.

We received dozens of nominations for more than 30 different businesses, and have compiled an official public poll of the six most popular establishments to determine once and for all whose parmigiana cuisine reigns supreme.

At 12pm on Thursday, The Brunswick Hotel and the Tasmanian Inn were level at the top of the poll on 24% each, with the other contenders all still in the hunt.

We’ve already crowned the state’s best fish and chips as part of the Mercury’s Best of Tasmania series.

Voting for Tasmania’s best parmigiana will close at 9am on Friday, December 6.

Here are a few details about each of our finalists:

THE BRUNSWICK, 67 LIVERPOOL ST, HOBART

For a fresh take on an old classic check out this inner-city pub where you can order a chicken, wallaby or mushroom parmigiana with chips, rocket and parmesan salad and your choice of toppings ($28).

PEMBROKE HOTEL, 1/29 GORDON ST, SORELL

The Pembroke Hotel offers a staggering range of parmigianas, ranging from the traditional ($25) through to less traditional toppings such as carbonara ($25), garlic prawn ($28), and curried scallop $29.

SHAMROCK HOTEL, 195 LIVERPOOL ST, HOBART

This Irish-themed corner pub often has full tables and the parmigianas are a crowd favourite. You can opt for plain ($12.50), Hawaiian, Pepperoni or Mexican varieties ($15 each) with a chicken or beef base or try something kookier.

TASMANIAN INN, 172 CAMPBELL ST, HOBART

According to their website, the Tasmanian Inn has a dedicated ‘parmi night’ each Thursday, when the innkeepers parmigiana — featuring crumbed Tasmanian chicken breast, arabiata sauce, provolone cheese, pesto, chips & garden salad — drops in price from $25 to $18. The Tasmanian Inn also has an eggplant parmigiana ($23).

LONGLEY INTERNATIONAL HOTEL, HUON RD, LONGLEY

A short drive from Hobart, the Longley International Hotel, according to their Facebook page, has a range of $25 parmigianas, which range from traditional and Hawaiian through to ‘Jak’s special’ and ‘Jill’s special’. All parmis are served with a fresh garden salad and steakhouse fries.
