“My kids absolutely love them, so I decided to try them … then I pulled this out of my mouth."

A WA mum has made a horrifying discovery while eating one of her kid’s favourite snacks.

A mum-of-two from Perth recently gave her young son a packet of chocolate-covered sultanas, one of his favourite snacks after a busy day.

Her kids “absolutely love” the sultanas, but now she’s having second thoughts about giving them to them again.

“I’m so glad it was me and not my kids”

The mum packs the snacks in her 7yo son’s lunchbox every day and frequently feeds them to her 2yo daughter.

Her kids are usually “little guts” when it comes to the sultanas, gobbling them up without even looking at what they’re eating.

The Golden Bay mum had watched her kids enjoy the snacks for years, so she decided she’d give them a try for herself.

Grabbing a box from the pantry, she opened them up and started eating the chocolate-covered sultanas.

However, as she put one of the pieces in her mouth and “went to bite down”, she quickly realised she couldn’t.

There was something wrong, so she pulled whatever she was chewing on out of her mouth.

“It’s a hard piece of plastic,” she said on the Facebook post.

Sure enough, in her hands was what appeared to be a piece of hardened plastic - what she said was “plastic tubing” - shaped like a piece of macaroni and not much bigger than a few centimetres.

“[They were supposed to be] chocolate-coated sultanas,” she said. “Yet I got chocolate-coated plastic.”

Thankfully, she pulled the piece of plastic out in time, but something stuck in her mind: “I’m so glad it was me and not my kids.”

The Perth woman also frequently gives her kids the yoghurt-covered sultanas, unlocking a new fear every time she hands them over.

“I’m now having to cut them up before giving them to the kids,” she said. “It’s scared me.”

“This gives me anxiety”

The Facebook post quickly went viral, with other parents sharing their concerns for the popular snack.

“This gives me anxiety,” a mum said. “Oh gosh, I just bought a packet today!” said another. “My son’s favourite treat.”

“Omg my nonverbal autistic son downs these every day and I just give him the box,” said another.

“Glad your children are okay and yourself,” a concerned person wrote. “Could have been a different story, though, if it was your young ones.”

Speaking to Kidspot, a spokesperson for Aldi said: "We are in contact with this customer and are currently investigating the allegation with our supplier partner. Our high quality standards are of critical importance to us, and we investigate any matter that comes through our help centre."
